About the Gateway Council

The Greater Vancouver Gateway Council (GVGC) is an industry-led coalition that brings together senior executives from the ports, airport, railways, marine terminals, trucking companies, air carriers, and logistics providers that form Canada’s largest trade gateway.

Established in 1994, the Council’s mission is to ensure the Vancouver Gateway remains globally competitive, resilient, and sustainable — a place where efficient trade infrastructure and collaborative policy support Canada’s economic prosperity.

Working together for Canada’s future

The Gateway Council provides a non-partisan, collaborative forum where industry and governments come together to solve complex, multi-jurisdictional challenges — ensuring Canada’s west coast gateway remains efficient, resilient, and ready for the future.

Our vision

By 2035, Canada’s West Coast trade gateway will serve as a model for resilient, digitally connected, and sustainable growth, handling record cargo and passenger volumes while achieving measurable reductions in emissions and congestion.

Through collaboration among industry, governments, and communities, the Gateway will continue to anchor over 250,000 jobs, grow export volumes and enable billions in trade supporting Canadian households and businesses.
